Since CDTA is subsidized by the (taxpayers) government......can't they apply for grants themselves?
CDTA does get grants from the federal government, every year |

Huh? Where have you been Yes, well, there is a bus that goes on Curry Rd from Hamburg to Guilderland Ave and down Guilderland There are two buses that go on Altamont Ave, from Price Chopper to Ellis Hospital is one, and the other from chopper thru Mt Pleassant going out to Walmart. There is one going out to Rott Square Mall, but I'm not sure exactly where that goes And they have Hamburg St going out to Ellis Hospital but only a few time a day And the buses coming into town run til 11 at night now and I believe on Saturdays
I haven't ridden a CDTA bus in over 30 years - wasn't sure they still came that far down Curry Rd since the cutbacks were made in the Spring. |

Last Spring -- when CDTA was cutting service in Rotterdam -- one of its employees (at a Rotterdam Town Board meeting) said that because ridership was up (due to gas prices) that their costs had gone up and revenues were down. If a bus which normally travels with only 20% of its seats filled suddenly increases ridership to 40% or 80% --- common sense and simple math would suggest that more paying customers on the same run = more revenue NOT less revenue.
Public transportation should be doing better with higher ridership - not doing worse.
YOU do the simple math! They said they were LOSING money!! They brought stats to show that they were losing money. But our locals just kept putting pressure on them. I'm not saying that buses aren't needed in rotterdam....but I would think that CDTA would or should know what they can afford and what they can't. Looks like CDTA will have to continue to depend on the taxpayers/government to keep them afloat!! And yes there is a bus on Curry rd. |

I am just saying that their stats did notmake sense --- ridership up = paying customers up .. so a bus that is 75% full is making money for CDTA than a bus that previously was 25% full |

The bus on Curry Rd is the 63 from Schenectady to Albany via Route 20 -- 3 times in the morning and 3 times at night.

Rotterdam wants property on tax roll MARV CERMAK Covering Schenectady Published: 12:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 14, 2010
Some Rotterdam town officials are concerned about the possibility of Schenectady County locating its proposed nursing home at the deteriorated former Curry Road shopping plaza.
They're all worked up because they want to put the town-owned property on the tax rolls instead of using it for the tax-exempt Glendale Home. At first blush, that appears to be sound thinking. After all, the town already houses the tax-free county Highway Department garage.
Hey, wait a second! Schenectady property owners have been paying outrageous city tax rates -- among the highest in the nation -- for many years. The rates are off the wall partially because the city is overloaded with tax-exempt public service type properties.
In Schenectady the tax-free roll includes two college campuses, three hospital locations, the central library, several county office buildings plus the courthouse, jail and sheriff's office, the YMCA, YWCA and Proctors.
Years ago, if city officials had the foresight of the present Rotterdam leaders, some of these tax-freebie facilities may have been forced into Rotterdam and other towns. Then, instead of losing millions in property tax revenues, prime Schenectady land would've wound up on the tax rolls.
An e-mailer, disturbed at the Rotterdam officials' fear over the nursing home being tax-exempt, has an idea. He suggests town residents be hit with a surcharge whenever they use the nonprofit facilities in Schenectady.
A nursing home or most anything would upgrade the Curry Road site, seemingly a forever eyesore wasteland.............>>>>....................>>>>..................http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/Rotterdam-wants-property-on-tax-roll-657128.php

Unlike the Rotterdam GOP - we Democrats can and do .. have different opinions on issues. I remember the Town Board meeting when Mr. Guidarelli had the "nerve" to NOT vot with the Tomassone/Parisi/Buchanan "party line -- the fireworks went off and they had to go into executive session . screaming and yelling at the poor guy because he dared to think for himself. |

Mr. Abstain was a con.....just like ND is today!!! So I guess you are saying that the dems should embrace her for thinking for herself....right? The only difference was that Mr. Abstain had only his personal business interests in the forefront.....ND has the taxpayers in the forefront! |

Before he abstained - he voted NO on an issue that Mr Parisi, Mr Buchanan, and Mr Tomassone EXPECTED him to vote yes on -- because they demand 100% allegiance. Mr. Guidarelli wouldn't "goosestep" through Town Hall to the tune of Mr Buchanan's flute .. so they went ballistic on him .. and the rest is history. |

I have no problem with Councilperson Dileva thinking for herself and voting the way she believes is right.
I had no problem with then Councilperson Guidarelli thinking for himself and voting the way he believed was right.
Quite frankly, I am not intimidated by pressure from "higher ups" to to think the way they want me to think or vote the way they want me to vote or say what they want me to say ... so take me as I am because that is what you will get. |
