ROTTERDAM
DAV to acquire Draper School

BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter

The Disabled American Veterans is ready to purchase the former Draper School building and could close the property within the next week, an official with the organization said Monday.
Thomas Reiter, the Disabled American Veterans’ state representative and the junior vice commander of the department in New York, said First Niagara has accepted his organization’s offer and is moving toward completing the deal. He said the bank will soon foreclose on the property still owned by the defunct International Charter School of Schenectady and then flip it to his organization moments later.
“They did take our offer,” he said. “We were told to write up the paperwork.”
Reiter declined to discuss the purchase price in advance of the closing. However, he said his organization has already invested roughly $50,000 into securing the property and is determined to move forward with a project to convert it into roughly 150 apartments for disabled combat veterans over the age of 55.
“It will put Rotterdam on the map because it will be the fi rst one in the nation,” he said.
The deal also includes all of the items remaining inside the former charter school building. Reiter anticipates his organization will host an auction after the closing to sell some of the remaining items and raise money to maintain the building until construction is complete. .......................>>>>......................>>>>........................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01001&AppName=1

Another example of "working together works" --  another accomplishment by the Revitalize Rotterdam team that we elected last November.

We have seen more positive movement forward in Rotterdam - in the past 8 months - than we have seen in the last 30 years.

I'm a registered 'pub, but I could care less how its done, just as long as the vacant buildings in this town are either occupied by new entities or torn down and the lot sold.

Capital Plaza..check
Draper School.. check...

Next up, how about
The curry road shopping plaza and
The Old Edgewood property?

I have heard some positive things "in the works" for Curry Road Plaza and Edgewood - but not at liberty to speak publicly about it yet.

Didn't the town sell the land to a developer who was supposed to build apartments or did that deal fall thru.

land was never sold to a developer .. I believe that the IDA owns it now .. based on the last minute actions of the outgoing town board in Dec 2009

it would make a great location for the county nursing home .. and bring hundreds of jobs to Rotterdam

Any job or business in Rotterdam would be welcome if it helps to keep our taxes from going up every year.

NOOOOOO.......You would just be transferring jobs from one end of the county to the other. And LESS since there will be even less beds.

And the hundreds of transferred jobs equate to hundreds more cars....just what rotterdam needs, being that the entire town is nothing more than 2 lane streets! That's vision and planning for ya!

The number that I hear quited -- the new nursing home would employ over 200 persons -   that is
hundreds to those of you who belong to the KR School of Government

Since the old nursing home can't remain as it is for long .. and Glenville doesn't want the NEW nursing home ...  Rotterdam would be foolish to not pursue the possibility of getting it built here.

for now the County Nursing Home is a public venture ..  I would hate to turn it away from our town.

There is no reason why we couldn't build it here FIRST .. and then eventually consider selling it to a
private concern.   Although .. in my humble opinion .. public nursing homes are better run than private ones.   My Dad was in a public one before he died .. and my Mom in a private one .. my Dad got much better care.
