I don't get it - they work there, and the computers are for work purposes.

I would gladly give up my password - I would have nothing to hide.

YOu guys are wrong.  My office manager has all of our passwords.  And when I worked at the town, the Super had my password.  Maybe people played loose after that.  I amsurprised since Tommasone was such power hungry dope.  However, no one has asked for private passwords.  But even there, I just left a board of local non-profit where the outgoing CEO was required to give up ALL her passwords.

Unless you were on a very antiquated system or perhaps someone just didn't know how to obtain this information, ALL of this information is readily available! For example, how do you think they nab someone for watching porn on their work computers. OR even at home? The administrator/server has ALL of this information logged. Some places log in and collect more information than others.....such as the federal government.

This has nothing to do with Tommasone or FDG or rep or dem....this is how these systems are set up and work.

dontcha get it.....you don't HAVE to give up your password.......The administrator/server already has this info!!! However, unless they are going to use it for cross training purposes. Like if someone is out sick.

It could be they just don't have a clue how to access the information without logging into the individual accounts.  That really wouldn't surprise me.

My thought was that someone should be getting a weekly/monthly report on usage.  But then again, who are the IT people in charge?

TOP SECRET MEETING AT THE CHALET~ What was the Doog doing at the Chalet between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm today.
Could it be they were combing the computer passwords offsite to try and nail the Town Hall employees....?
Gadfly, I am surprised you weren't invited to the top secret meeting...This could be something to look in to.

I am sure that if one employee was using the town hall computers for personal use
they were all using them for personal use....if they try to fire anyone, they would
have to issue a verbal warning first.....

There's nothing wrong with using your work computer for personal use unless your employer strictly forbids it. The only other reason other than the employer forbidding it would be illegal use of the computer such as viewing or down loading child porn.

There are no IT people....MT is right...they have no clue how to access those accounts without passwords...and while they have
discussed hiring an IT person/firm, they have yet to do so.

My question is still WHY these passwords were asked for. What are they hoping to find? What are they looking for?

Some people use their work computer for personal use like their banking. ALL of their personal banking info is recorded also. So although I think it is a bad idea to use a work computer for these personal matter, it is done everyday. People may want to re-think exactly what they use their work computers for. Especially when you are being asked to provide your 'personal password'.

The passwords are all about the leak.

And it goes something like this

Gadfly how did you hear of the password issue???

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who was  in town hall and overheard the discussion

It is all about who they can terminate for just cause. Like talking about town business to the press

You would think rotterdam was exempt form the freedoms our constitution provides

Once they can mike and appoint tony all will be well

This is why you don't give up your username and password to anyone

http://mail.rotterdamny.org/exchange/

Now the person with the passwords  could login from say the chalet and send emails as that employee

The employee would have a very difficult time proving thay did'nt send hate mail to Mr Griesemer
