It's an event in the town, well attended by town members (and politicians), from a prominent organization within the town.  Not sure what the issue is?

They're not "establishing a religion" - they're listing town events.  It doesn't say they sponsored it, so?

Do all churches in town have equal access to advertise on the Town web page?

The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable, and so, if he is romantic, he tries to change it. And even if he is not romantic personally he is apt to spread discontent among those who are. ~ H.L. Mencken

You'd have to ask the town, but it appears they have a good, if not total representation of all churches in the town: http://rotterdamny.org/main/churches.htm

Main Phone Number:
(518) 355-7575

I'd be more concerned about why not ALL Town of Rotterdam businesses are included on this page: http://rotterdamny.org/main/business.htm  - or better yet, why businesses outside the town ARE being advertised there.

I confess that I may have missed it, but was Our Lady of Peace/OLA, listed on the town's website too?

How about the Fisher methodist church by dunkin donuts (I don't know it's new name now)....they had a sign that said they were having a 'community dinner'. I don't remember seeing that one on the town's website either. But again, I may have over looked it.

It's still listed as Our Lady of the Assumption

Maybe Fisher didn't submit a press release to the town?

I'm more concerned about the town promoting a church event. It give the event a political undertone. I don't think a town government should be promoting ANY of them!! That is what the 'community events' section is for in the paper. It should be self promoted by the church and it's members. Getting the local government involved in it's promotion, just politicizes the event.IMHO

All the politicians showing up and shaking hands / kissing babies isn't "politicizing" it??

I have no problem with politicians pandering to the electorate by attending these events. It's one of those evils we just have come to accept and try to ignore!

I DO take issue with a town government's website advertising a 'specific' church function under the guise of a 'FALL FESTIVAL'.
Go back and look at it again. Innocently they put a small picture of the church up in the corner. The very bottom, in small print is that the proceeds are to benefit st.gabriels. In between all of that in big bold letters is FALL FESTIVAL, WITH RIDES AND FOOD AND THE SCHEDULED DATES!!!

Sorry, but imo, it shouldn't be on the town website.

They shouldn't even be talking about/promoting religion.......separate church and state....not talky talky.....the thing that REALLY messes this up
is the Vatican seat at the UN........

If you can find "separation of church and state" in the US Constitution -- I will give you a prize.
The US Constitution only grants the Freedom OF Religion and says that Congress shall NOT pass any law which establishes an official religion.

Is that why the ten commandment monuments and crosses at war memorials were taken down? Wasn't that under the guise of 'separation of church and state'?

The phrase "separation of church and state" is not in the US Constitution -- came in a late 19th century Supreme Court decision  (a misguided decision) --

interestingly -- as far as crosses on public buildings -- the old Mater Christi Seminary in Albany - now owned by the State Police -- had crosses on top of the building for years after the state bought it -- still may be there  .. I haven't driven by in a while.

I have no problem with 10 Commandment Monuments and Crosses on War Memorials
