SCHENECTADY
Suspect’s cool demeanor throws off police

BY STEVEN COOK Gazette Reporter

Maybe it was the freeze pop he was eating, but a Rotterdam burglary suspect in April stayed cool enough under questioning by a detective to initially fool him, but not for long, a prosecutor said Friday.
The suspect, 19-year-old Elijah Torres, would soon find himself charged with a string of nighttime home burglaries committed while residents were asleep in their beds.
The charges are included in an indictment handed up this week. Among the new charges is one count of first-degree assault, accusing him of injuring the detective in a chase after he was questioned.
The incident began early April 24 on Horvath Street in Rotterdam, according to prosecutor William Sanderson.
Rotterdam Police Detective Donald Scavia was investigating a burglary at a home there, speaking with the residents outside. That’s when he noticed the man next door, loading a plastic container into the van while eating the freeze pop, Sanderson said.
It seemed as if the man was just going to work, Sanderson said. The man told the detective his uncle lived there, and that he hadn’t heard anything unusual next door.
It didn’t feel right to Scavia, Sanderson said, but the man’s story was bolstered because he gave the correct last name of the residents.
Returning to the original homeowner, Scavia relayed the story. Scavia quickly learned the story was bogus. Nephews of the residents lived out of the area. Also, the family was white; the man in the van was black. ...................>>>>.......................>>>>...................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00100&AppName=1

Thst is certainly profiling!

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
