Another eyesore...the farm on route 7 at the entrance to Exit 25A of the Thruway.  The farm and neighboring house were purchased by Flying J several years ago.  Flying J recently emerged from bankruptcy and merged with PILOT Travel Centers.  There has been absolutely no maintenance done on this farm and the neighboring home since they were purchased.   The lawn is overgrown, windows are broken, downed tree limbs from the Dec 2008 ice storm...it's a mess!   And has the code enforcement officer done anything about it?

Information on the merger --  http://www.flyingj.com/flyingjPortalWebProject/flyingjPortal.portal

P.S.    FDG's campaign sign is still posted on the barn of this property!!

These vacant properties need to be secured. If windows are broken, they should be boarded up. The lawn should be maintained.
The barn and house can sit there forever, for all I care, just keep up the property.

As the barn on Route 7 is private property and the Del Gallo sign is more than 8 feet from the roadway -- there is actually no legal reason why the property owner has to remove the sign.

If your biggest complaint about the town is someone exercising their constitutional right of free  speech by displaying an old campaign sign -- then I would suggest that all is not too bad in Rotterdam.

The empty abandoned buildings that have been left idle for years that are overgrown and look like real eye sores ex. The old Sunrise Gardens, K-Mart Plaza, Grand Union, and the house on the corner of Denver and Cramer Ave all are giving our town a poor impression of what should be a nice place to live.

I agree - the empty buildings are bad.  Hamburg St will not really make a comback until they put in sewers  --  I think the current plan is to put in new sidewalks -- which really should be the last step.    First, you need sewers -- very, very few commercial office or retail ventures will locate in an area without sewers.

In my opinion,  putting in new sidewalks without putting in sewers is like building a "bridge to nowhere"  (i.e. Amsterdam's waterfront revitalization idea).     New sidewalks will just make it easier to walk past the empty buildings  .. and who walks anymore?

Than it would be acceptable for EVERYONE to put out old campaign signs in support of their past candidates whether they won or lost?

Yeah, you can haul out your old Taft for President signs and put them on your house

my problem with the political signs is:

the leaders of our town some years ago passed a ordinance limiting their use in an effort to clean up our town

so either
enforce the code

or

remove it

agreed

if no sidewalks than a wider paved shoulder with a defining curb - concrete is fine

a defining curb would go a long way in cleaning things up on our major town roads

That is why rotterdam remains a sh!thole! While the taxpayers are doling out their hard earned money, and their town is falling down around them......the dems, reps and cons are throwing spitballs at each other like elementary kids in school.

Rotterdam is a disgrace of a town and their politics is the laughing stock.

Personally, I don't like the campaign signs - even during campaign season.  When I ran 5 years ago, I wanted to give the money that the lawn signs would cost to a town charity or split it between some worthy program at the two town high schools.     Unfortunately -- if you don't have signs up -- people don't think you are a serious candidate.

As for the Clark signs -- there is a primary on Sept 14 so it is within the law to have them up now.

As for the Del Gallo sign on the barn on Route 7 --- since it is on a private building more than 8 feet from the road way  (thus not in the right of way) --- it is technically legal to still be up.

Speaking of old campaign signs,  I found an old Mondale-Ferraro sign .. maybe I will tack it up on my garage .  LOL
