Castello's Restaurant on Nott Terrace, which when moved from Woodlawn to Downtown signaled the beginning of alleged "renaissance", is now closed. A sign on the door thanks its old customers.

Another embarrassment for the DSIC, and Metrograft "plans". The glut of restaurants serving less customers is taking its toll. Many other eateries/gin mills are in the red and barely hanging on.

It certainly surprised the horrible DSIC, who has raised "fees" again on Downtown businesses. Castello's can't pay-so you can pay more!

Did you hear about "arts" night? Neither did anyone else. The emphasis on gin mills/eateries instead of retail was stunad and some bloggers said so.

The people that didn't get the grants and loans from Metroplex can't compete with the corporate welfare recipients. Stay tuned for more closings...

You are absolutely correct. Would Villa Italia have moved if they didn't get a taxpaid sweetheart deal? Would marcella's have relocated if they didn't get a sweetheart deal? Would Proctors and Mr. Morris be living their personal dream without their sweetheart deal?

What private business can even begin to survive in the 'real market' when they are up against a constant flow of money, provided by the taxpayers, to a bloated government entity like the metroplex. What happened to 'supply and demand'?? The plex knows NOTHING about 'business' or how to even run one. All they know is that they are a government entity, with a constant flow of taxpayers money that they can dole out to the select few.

Thanks reps for creating this beast. The plex needs to be desolved immediately!! There are many just waiting for the first politician to campaign on that platform. We'll see if any of them have the balls/guts to do just that!

Wasn't that part of Brad Littlefield's platform?  He was the one that had the audit on Metroplex during his campaign.  Apparently, from the election results, it was not a big issue to voters.

Last year, there was one candidate for District 4 Schenectady County Legislature who stated that he was fundamentally opposed to the concept
of the Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority or any quasi-government public authority that redistributes public revenues to private entities.
This same candidate was largely responsible for the NYS Comptroller's Office conducting an audit of the Metroplex, the first since it's founding over
ten years prior despite being required by state law at a minimum of once every five years.

This individual called for an audit of the Department of Social Services to identify waste, fraud, and inefficiencies.  He offered to give 1/2 of his after tax salary from the Legislator position to not-for-profit and volunteer organizations in the county.  His interest in elected office was only to serve the community, as he had a long history of doing.

There are/were few candidates in Schenectady County politics of either party who have/had the courage to do what is right and stand up for the
oppressed taxpayers.  Many talk(ed) about reducing spending and lowering taxes, but none identify areas that they would target for cuts.  Most
candidates, of both major parties, have no appreciation or respect for the U.S. Constitution upon which our nation was founded and that clearly defines
the role and restricted powers of government.

It is my opinion that most residents in Schenectady County really don't want smaller government.  Spending reductions are only supported if they don't
impact their special interests.  Many have forgotten about personal responsibility and self-sufficiency and want the government to provide for and care for them.  They have sacrificed their liberties for a false sense of security.

You are now receiving that for which the majority has voted.  Wealth is being seized by government at all levels and redistributed to those who are
deemed worthy.  And with each crumb that is provided to you, you become more dependent on those who seek to control you.  Would you recognized principled leadership by those with honor, respect, and integrity if it appeared before you?

If you reside in the city of Schenectady, begin by looking to Pat Zollinger who is campaigning for the City Council.  Pat is not a politician.
She has a long history of community activism.  And, she says what she believes, which is not necessarily what is comfortable to hear.
