Maple Ski Area Theft

Last Update: 8:56 pm

Tens of thousands of dollars are stolen from a local ski resort. Now police say they have made arrests.

Police say these two men, Richard Whiting and Steven James, both of Schenectady  were involved in a string of burglaries in Rotterdam over the past three months.

Police say they also included a third man, David Oliver, to allegedly steal $32,000 from a locked office at Maple Ski Ridge back in February.

They're all charged with Burglary.

Mighty Mouse -- I am curious where you got your information regarding the addresses of the two individuals.  An article dated today 4/19/2010 is in the Spotlight and their addresses are NOT what you suggested.

Spotlight Newsroom 04/19/10
Following a three-month investigation, the Rotterdam Police Department is announcing the arrest of 2 individuals implicated in a string of burglaries located within the town that took place over the course of three months.

Richard Whiting, 21, of 2228 Broadway, Schenectady has been charged with six counts of Burglary, 4 charges of Grand Larceny and 1 Felony Criminal Mishchief.

Steven James, 26, of 3068 Edgewood Ave has been charged with 6 counts of Burglary, 5 charges of Grand Larceny and 1 Felony Criminal Mishief.

These incidents took place between Dec. 31 and March 29.

A third individual has also been arrested in connection with a Burglary committed with James and Whiting at the Maple Ski Ridge located on Mariaville Road.

David Oliver, 20, of 2545 Hamburg St, Rotterdam, has been charged with Burglary and Grand Larceny in this incident.

In this incident, which took place during the overnight hours of February 28, 2010, Oliver and Whiting forcibly entered the Maple Ski Ridge Offices as James stood by as the look out. Oliver and Whiting forced their way into a locked office and removed $32,000.00 in cash from a filing cabinet located within the office.

Rotterdam Detective Donald Scavia handled the case and was assisted by the New York State Police. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.

MealyMouth,

It's slanderous comments like yours that lead to discrimination, bias, charges, and lawsuits.

If your post resulted from misinformation that was provided to you, that is regrettable.  If the
information was concocted by you, it is irresponsible and hateful.

ROTTERDAM
Police: Trio took $32K in Maple Ski Ridge break-in

BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter

The Maple Ski Ridge lost most of its late February proceeds after a pair of workers and a Schenectady man allegedly broke into the lodge off Mariaville Road and looted an office filing cabinet of $32,000. The three men then spent most of the cash at two area malls and on a trip to Florida last month, according to police.
“They took a vacation, they bought clothes and they bought computers,” said Rotterdam police Lt. Michael Brown. “They went on a shopping spree.”
Two of the men and another man were also implicated in a string of burglaries that occurred in Rotterdam over the course of three months. The men stole everything from flat-screen televisions to rifl es to drugs since their first burglary on New Year’s Eve, police said. They were arrested earlier this month.
Former Maple Ski Ridge worker David Oliver, 20, of Hamburg Street, was charged with burglary and grand larceny in connection with the burglary at the lodge. Coworker Steven James, 26, of Edgewood Avenue, was charged with six counts of burglary, five counts of grand larceny and one count of criminal mischief.
Richard Whiting, 21, of Schenectady, was charged with six counts of burglary, four counts of grand larceny and one count of criminal mischief in connection with the case.
Also arrested was Joseph Borzymowski, 23, of Mariaville Road, who was arrested Friday on charges stemming from the burglary of a Dunnsville Road residence.
The Maple Ski Ridge heist occurred sometime during the overnight hours on Feb. 28. Oliver and Whiting forcibly entered the ski area’s offices as James stood lookout, according to police.
On-hand cash receipts from lift ticket and concession sales hadn’t been deposited for a couple of weeks. Kate Michner, a spokeswoman for the small family-owned ski area, said a miscommunication meant the money wasn’t deposited at the bank on the eve of the theft. ..................>>>>..............>>>>...............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01201&AppName=1
