Don't waste your time answering this sock puppet. He is offended by anyone who speaks the truth about the McCarthy Party or LWV. People here know what the League is all about.

First......yes, I'm sure there are some involved and interested residents in the city who truly do care about their school system. However, there are the seniors, the empty nesters and the folks who never had children that are very detached from school issues. And there is a huge population of city dwellers that are either high on crack, can't speak english or they themselves never made it through high school.....basically just don't give a sh!t![quote]

Bumblethru there are actually many seniors and empty nesters who have become active in the future of the SCSD. Many participated on the Budget Advisory Board and other BOE Committees this year. They care about the future of this city, as well as providing a good education and quality of life for its students and other residents.  And yes, they are concerned about the budgetary problems, and the failures and manipulations of the some of the Board members and administrators. They and others in the city are supporting a clean slate to address these problems.
These all seem to be healthy signs, rather than the negative picture you paint.

Maybe Kim needs to familiarize herself with the process? There are only 9 candidates running. Anyone who is  optimistic hasn't been paying attention. [quote]

Only 9 candidates running?  For 4 seats? When was the last time you saw this much interest in running for the city Board of Ed? A non-paying job. This is unprecedented in the last 9 or 10 years. May it continue, and bring about the best ideas for change.

The point being that the letter writer stated 10 people were running. Yes, this is a positive development. The days were a couple of hacks selecting candidates are finished.

Sure you would agree that this should continue with City Hall and the County Legislature that both desperately need new blood-lol-

You're right. I missed your point that Kim said 10 members were running. The Gazette holds on to Letters to the Editor, and possibly the letter was written while Nicolle Ragone was still running. Sounds like Kim can count.  I don't know her.
And yes, thankfully, "a couple of hacks selecting candidates" is not happening this year, although the jury is out as to whether any of the "independent" candidates are secretly supported by Jeff and Warren's group.

And once the election is over....hold their feet to the fire so history doesn't repeat itself!

I say 'kudos' to all the candidates who are stepping up to the plate!

MAY THE BEST WO/MAN WIN!!

The most important vote is NO! on the budget. And not just in the City. Many other districts are also squeezing the sheeple for record tax increases in the midst of the worst economy in decades. Dump anyone from school board that refuses to fire or lacks fiscal expertise.

Get out and vote tomorrow NOON-9PM. Take your neighbor and cousin who only votes in Presidential elections. Fiscal CONS need to show up in droves after work. In NJ 59% of school budgets were defeated. Let's see how many can be defeated over here. A loud message must be sent that we will not approve any budget that does not cut administrators first.

Schenectady voters say no, and out
Voters reject proposed school budget, oust board's president

By LAUREN STANFORTH, Staff writer
First published in print: Wednesday, May 19, 2010

SCHENECTADY -- Voters expressed their displeasure with city schools again by voting down the 2010-2011 budget Tuesday while also unseating school board President Maxine Brisport.

The $161.6 million budget, which carried a nearly 6 percent tax levy increase, failed in a 1,822 to 1,601 vote.
A slate of four school board candidates that campaigned on a platform of transparency won -- a sign of how the public feels about the scandals that have rocked the district in the last two years.

Most notable of those has been the conviction of former facilities supervisor Steven Raucci for placing explosive devices on the cars and at the homes of his enemies. Information released at Raucci's trial in March showed administrators likely knew about Raucci's alleged intimidation and harassment at work, and that Superintendent Eric Ely knew State Police had launched a criminal investigation surrounding the former school employee............>>>>.............>>>>...........Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=932531#ixzz0oN5eaakp

Bravo to the over 1,800 City voters who turned out to reject the outrageous final budget of Jiffy Jeffy and his Superintendent. The path is now clear to clean the school barn, cut $900,000 from the bloated administration and return to neighborhood schools. Cathy Lewis should be named the next President after her huge victory at the polls. Her accountant expertise must be put to use. Andy Chestnut is also just what this board needed to change course.

Another warning to incumbents not to seek re-election. Farkas and Russo should not repeat the mistakes of Bellick and Brisport.
