The funnies/saddest part is that the Gazetto editors now want Jiffy Jeffy & Co-the same morons that extended his contract-to now start a new search. They got to be kidding us.

Maybe they should wait until after the School Bored election and news that he has actually landed a new position? He will receive nothing and the sheeple will be on the hook for his full salary. Only in Schenectady-the education City.

A full employment measure for lawyers and parking lot attendants. These could be better than the Obama stimulus package. This is the best economic development "tool" since the busy hot dog vendor opened outside packed DSS.

Exactly!!! They have blown this trial right out of proportion. (no pun intended) It appears to be more of a money maker for ALL involved. EXCEPT THE SCHOOL SYSTEM!

This entire school district and every single person employed by it, including the CSEA, should be ashamed. Ashamed that the system they work for and represent is sooooo corrupt. And I don't think it begins and ends with Raucci OR the school district. IMO

Ashamed? They should be in prison. Anyone that thinks this stunad janitor acted alone should also be ashamed of themselves.

This was a criminal conspiracy and The Mad Bomber was the muscle behind it. Anyone that crossed the School Bored and or administration got whacked so hard they didn't complain again. They destroyed families and students. Then you wonder why you can't give away property in the City. The scope of this must be enlarged by the Attorney General and FBI.

Disappearing leadership
Marv Cermak

If Eric Ely is able to land one of the superintendent jobs he is seeking, that will mean two-thirds of the current Schenectady School District upper level cadre will be depleted by the end of this school year.

Besides Ely's attempt to get out of Dodge, three of the five top leadership jobs won't be around for the next school year.

Mike Stricos, district human resources director, retired last week even though he was given a one-year contract extension.

Mike San Angelo, assistant superintendent for business, who was not granted a contract extension, will retire in July.

Ely, Stricos and San Angelo have been criticized for allegedly ignoring warming about the workplace conduct of Steve Raucci, a powerful union leader and district department head now on trial for terrorism and other charges.

The last of the exiting administrators is Gary Comley, associate superintendent in charge of Schenectady High School. He retires in June.

The only holdovers are Bill Roberts, assistant superintendent for operations, and Matt Weinheimer, assistant superintendent for curriculum.

A big IF as far as Super Elys landing anything. Maybe there is an opening in Alaska? Then he could put his "urban leadership" to the cold test. With global warming {ha-ha} this might be a realistic option.

Ely appears out of current job options
Superintendent dropped as candidate in Billings, Erie unlikely to hire him

By LAUREN STANFORTH, Staff writer
First published in print: Wednesday, April 7, 2010

SCHENECTADY -- It appears the city school board isn't off the hook when dealing with Superintendent Eric Ely's employment as Ely was knocked out as a superintendent candidate in Montana on Monday, and a job in Erie, Pa. will likely go to an internal candidate during a vote there tonight.

Some people wonder if the board will try to fire Ely in the wake of revelations at the trial of Steven Raucci that Ely knew about criminal investigations and harassment claims against Raucci and did nothing to remove him from the facilities supervisor post. Raucci was convicted of arson and weapons possession for leaving explosive devices at the homes and on cars of his enemies, which included school employees. Ely has said he didn't have a cozy relationship with Raucci, and that Raucci denied the allegations when Ely confronted him.
The school board could terminate Ely for cause before the end of his contract in 2012 without having to pay him at least one year of his salary, according to his employment agreement with the school district.

But any such move likely won't happen until after May's school board election because there do not appear to be enough votes on the board to end Ely's contract.

"I think one way or another, (Ely) has to go," said Marjorie Karowe, the city resident who organized the group Schenectady Citizens for Openness in Public Education, which has endorsed four candidates for school board. "But the best thing would be to not pay him off."

The board has been largely mum about its opinions. President Maxine Brisport previously said she wanted to see Ely get a job elsewhere. But now she says she can't discuss personnel matters.

Board members Jeff Janiszewski, Linda Bellick and Lisa Russo all voted last summer to extend Ely's contract from 2011 to 2012 -- even after questions about Ely's relationship with Raucci arose. At the time, Janiszewski was board president and said Ely had raised test scores and kept property taxes in check enough to warrant the extension.

Janiszewski recently said he wouldn't want to oust Ely while the superintendent is crafting next year's budget. The board would need to vote 5 to 1 to terminate Ely's contract if it found cause.

To fire for cause, the board must state its reason in writing and allow Ely to have a hearing where witnesses could testify on either side. The hearing would not have to be a "formal evidentiary hearing conducted pursuant to the strict rules of evidence," according to his contract. But it could include proof that he failed to comply with the contract. After a hearing, the board would have seven days to vote.

If the board removed Ely without cause, they would have to pay him at least 12 months of his estimated $189,000-a-year salary, plus up to 58 accumulated vacation days. In addition, health insurance coverage would likely have to be continued...............>>>>.............>>>>...............Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=918854#ixzz0kPcDi0tE

Nothing changes and now "President" Maxine Brisport refuses to discuss personal matters? That's your job-stop blaming the press and cut! For the kids! Public employees refusing to budget? What a surprise!

On the school budget the do nothing Schenectady School Bored refuses to listen to the sage advice of the business leaders on the Business Advisory Committee. No serious cuts have been proposed. Cutting some paras and Arabic is not enough. They must go back to neighborhood schools, end the magnet school madness and slash busing.  Amsterdam has proposed a zero tax increase-Schenectady must cut school taxes.

Evidence of Ely’s bullying abundant, and cause for firing

Webster’s defines bully as “to intimidate by an overbearing, swaggering demeanor or by threats.” The crimes Steve Raucci was convicted of have several names in the criminal code, but they all boil down to bullying. Fortunately, the criminal justice system was eventually able to stand up to Mr. Raucci.
Bullying in the Schenectady city schools has not been limited to Mr. Raucci. We know that bullying has been a problem among students, too. But it starts at the top: Superintendent Eric Ely has acted as a bully in public on many occasions.
He bullied the charter school by withholding funds in defiance of state law. He bullied taxpayers in last year’s budget process, threatening a 15 percent tax increase if a smaller increase was rejected. He tried to bully the comptroller’s office in his reply to their audit criticism. Readers of this newspaper know he has bullied the Gazette by blaming it for his problems, and refusing to speak to its opinion writers.
Those actions are public. But of course, for every public action there are many private actions. As I organize my campaign to run for the school board, I have heard about Mr. Ely’s private bullying of parents, teachers and support staff. These accusations are not made publicly because people are afraid — and for good reason. Mr. Ely continues to be in charge.
This district has been traumatized, and it needs to heal. The first step in that healing process will be the removal of Mr. Ely and his close collaborators, one way or another. Next, the district will need to apologize to those who have been wronged. Only then can we turn our attention to the challenging task of making Schenectady a great urban school district.

How do YOU spell lawsuit?
Schenenctady Informer
Ellen Patrice

What is the “chief prosecutor” of Schenectady County, Robert Carney, doing by butting his nose into the affairs of a school district in Billings Montana? A local blog reports this as follows:
Quoted Text
Quoted Text
Trustee Mary Jo Fox, read from a letter that she’d received from the chief prosecutor in the arson and vandalism trial and from an editorial in the local Schenectady newspaper, both of which discouraged Billings from hiring Ely. She also referred to a conversation she had with Ely’s board president in Schenectady, who told Fox the board was looking for ways for get rid of Ely.

I'm surprised he found the time over the past year preparing for his "case of the century" to even write a letter. Strock probably "contrived" one up for him. And what is the “board president” Maxine Brisport thinking when apparent talking to Montana and saying that they’re looking for ways to get rid of Ely? Her letter in the paper today is hardly worth reading.

I guess they're just trying to keep the issue alive, well past kicking it to death before it even started.

How do you spell lawsuit? Eric Ely certainly now has a case for slander against Schenectady County, the school board president personally, the school board, the school district and the Daily Gazette. For what you may ask? Slander, libel, slander, libel, slander.

Eric Ely was not charged with any crimes yet the Daily Gazette has systematically slandered him for well over a year now. Carl Strock has written many nasty articles and found Ely to be his favorite punching bag. But slander, and anything said without proof, as in commentary and malicious gossip can be used as evidence for trial. And I would suggest that Ely find himself a really good lawyer, not one being in Schenectady.

Why on earth would a prosecutor stick his nose into business that he has no right to do?  Creating work for himself? How can Ely defend his actions when he isn’t even called as a witness? You want to tell your neighbor that someone’s watching your house or asking questions about him? You might be called to task on that fact. Not that you did anything illegal, just that it makes for “great news” of that moment.

Be aware. Not too long in the future your own lives could be turned upside down at the whims of a flimsy newspaper columnist bent on destroying you.

Looking here and there, looking everywhere! Looking for a school I can call my own?

The taxpayers are on the hook for his full salary for the next two years. He will not be fired no matter who wins in May. The current bored decided to really hammer the City sheeple. In more ways than one.

Anyone who would re-elect any of them or bring back a failed member who closed Mt Pleasant High-should have their head examined.

Ely should be fired! And I still believe that there are others that should share some of the 'love' that raucci has received.

You need a super majority to dump Elys. After the barn cleanout in May you will still have 3 supporters on this disgraceful Schenectady school bored.

In the meanwhile, they flatly refuse to budget, to cut busing, to return to neighborhood schools as recommended by the business leaders on the Business Advisory Committee. Property owners in the City are going to pay for decades for the stupidity of this current bored.

And what exactly are these property owners getting for their money?????

What you have at this school is an influx of people from the 'city'...... down state. So in comparison, they think this school system is like a walk in the park. You won't hear complaints from them!! They think the city of schenectady is like living in the 'country'!
