ROTTERDAM
Democrats in transition meeting
Bring in Brick, former town attorney, in preparation for majority status
BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Reach Gazette reporter Justin Mason at 395-3113 or jmason@dailygazette.net.

When the incoming Democratic majority attends its first transition meeting this afternoon in Town Hall, they’ll bring along a familiar face as their counsel.
Andrew Brick, Rotterdam’s former town attorney, will join the four Town Board members-elect as they query Rotterdam officials on issues ranging from pending litigation to contract negotiations. Supervisor-elect Frank Del Gallo confirmed that Brick has been retained during the transition, but said the new board majority is still up in the air about plans for the town attorney’s office.
“We’re still looking,” he said Tuesday.
Incoming board member Robert Godlewski said not to place too much significance on Brick’s hiring during the transition, but the new majority will find new counsel once the town’s contract with the law firm of Parisi, Coan and Saccocio expires on New Year’s Day.
“At this point that is true,” he said. “Unless something comes forward from a legal standpoint.”
Godlewski wasn’t sure how Brick would be paid, but assured the Democrats have enough money. He said it’s important for the new board to have a well-versed municipal attorney advising them as they become acquainted with the details of the town’s operations over the past several years.
“He’s just helping us through this transition period,” he said. “It’s the prudent thing to do.” ......................>>>>....................>>>>..............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01001&AppName=1

I thought the GOP lawyers made too much and they were going to cut the lawyer costs? Now it will be difficult to hire someone someone? Already a broken campaign pledge! WOW! What do ya' know.

Didn't Parisi actually get paid more than what was budgeted? I thought that was the issue?

On another note....It's no different than the plex. The dems control the plex, but the reps would love to.
In rotterdam, the gop attorney made a 'chunk of change'. The dems would like to offer the same to their own.

Both parties are the same in that aspect. IMHO

Bum:

I hear they wanna put ur buddy Gerard Parisi or Salamone in DellaVilla's spot when he steps down PRIOR to Jan 1st so the 4 elected officials the public voted out get to put one of their own in... I hope he is smarter than that!  The public spoke loud and clear>  Mike D has always been respected in the town.  Hopefully he stays for his entire term or waits until Jan 1

What do u think about that Bum?

Yeah, being a Republican seat, it is only right that the Democrats pick it (sounds like the Obama express talking.)

It's a Republican seat??? That may be how you look at it but I think when residents voted, they voted for a person, not a party and when DellaVilla quits
just days before the new year the residents will see that as a slap in the face because if we go with your logic, it's a democratic seat because the sheeple spoke loud and clear a few
weeks ago.   If Salamone wanted to be a Town Board member, he should have ran for office like the rest of em.

I hope you have the decency to interview the Republican candidates like Mertz and Signore too!!!

"son-in-law"? When were the nuptials?

Leave it to the dead enders to put a WFP in --on the way out.

I don't think too much about it at all. I think that if Dellavilla gives up his seat, it should be the rest of the board to appoint someone to the seat until it is up for election. That is what the reps did with stan and what the county leg does. Nothing different here. Just appoint and approve.

Why wouldn't the Republicans appoint Suhrada or Signore to fill Dellavilla's seat, if he decides to resign?

The fact that Joe and Joe ran for these positions indicates that they have interest in serving in that role.
Hell, Suhrada stepped down from his County Legislature seat to run for the Town Board.

Why would they appoint Joe Salamone?  I understand that, as FactOrFiction stated, Salamone is an enrolled
member of the Working Families party.  The ideology of the two parties is, or should be, diametrically
opposed.

Who makes up these rumors?

It should be a Republican since they are still in office and have the power to appoint if Mike wants out.  Joe Salamone would be a good replacement for Della Villa if he were a Republican.  He is on the Mohonasen School Board now.

But what about Mike O'Connor who ran this time and did get a lot of votes?  He would be a great counter-balance to the Dems.

Unfortunately, whoever gets appointed has to run this fall.  Might be a good time for a Republican to win though.  I don't like seeing a single party running any board or legislature.  I don't think many voters do.  Voters might be well inclined to vote for a Republican this November.
