Pfizer restructuring will mean closing N.Y. sites
BY LINDA A. JOHNSON The Associated Press

TRENTON, N.J. — Less than a month after buying Wyeth, drug giant Pfizer Inc. has mapped out a new structure for its research and development operations.
The plan, announced Monday, will bring the closure of six of the two companies’ 20 research facilities, reorganize and consolidate others, and cut the jobs of up to 2,000 scientists and laboratory technicians.
Pfizer, which is based in New York, solidified its position as the world’s biggest drugmaker with its $68 billion purchase of drug and vaccine maker Wyeth on Oct. 15, diversifying overnight by adding Wyeth’s biotech drugs and consumer and animal health divisions.
The two executives heading the combined research operation told The Associated Press that integrating and reorganizing the two companies’ laboratories will boost research productivity and save money.
In addition, Pfizer will eliminate about 35 percent of the 16 million square feet of research space it now has around the world.
It will now have five key research centers, each focused on specifi c disease areas, plus nine other laboratories with specialized research capabilities. Research operations in New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, and the United Kingdom will be closed.
The three sites being closed in northern New York — in Rouses Point, Chazy and Plattsburgh — will eliminate nearly 600 jobs.
Pfizer spokesman Chris Loder says the Rouses Point and Plattsburgh operations will close sometime next year, with Chazy to follow sometime in 2011. ...............>>>>...................>>>>...............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00703&AppName=1

Another business closing in NYS. More lost revenues. Let's face it people.....we live in a poverty state. The way I see it, we are just intoo deep. Be it a rep or dem in office, the outcome will be the same. Just different faces, different patronage jobs and a different slate of special interest groups.

I think it is time to beat feet!!!

600 good paying jobs fleeing the North Country! Absolutely sickening-no other employment is available.

This State is down the toilet unless major spending/State governmental cuts are made this year. Taxpayer revolt Statewide-except in this County?

dont pay our tax bills......they raise taxes for crap we dont need right out of thin air(then it 'disappears' into
thin air)---let's give them all the thin air they want......

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
