I've said it before and I'll say it again.....how many years has it been since golub bought up all of those homes? Everyone knew what they were planning. Now the residents are 'shocked'?

I don't care if the dems or reps are sitting in town hall. Here's the choice they will be faced with......let golubs build which would add to the tax base and keep them here....OR.....tell them 'no' and let them move out lock, stock and barrel and lose the tax base.

The residents who will be negatively impacted by this expansion are located on Dolan Drive and Dunnsville Road...they were living there in a residential area long before Golub purchased the properties on Dunnsville!

And as for the tax base...good one!   We all know that this expansion project will be a PILOT program and it will 10 years before Golub will be paying its fair share of taxes.   And why is it a PILOT?   Because it's bringing new jobs to the community.   Of course, these new jobs will be held by the workers from the Voorhesville location.   Oh, and by the way, Golub is moving the corporate jobs OUT of Rotterdam and sending them to downtown Schenectady...another PILOT program.   Our taxpayers will see NO benefit from this project...same as the Long Pond Apartments on Campbell Road.

That's SMART GROWTH in Rotterdam...go figure!

I agree with you in part about the residents living there long before this proposed expansion. And yes the main office complex is moving out, only to be replaced by a larger whse facility. Good for rotterdam? The city gains an office complex and rotterdam is left with a warehouse.

However, what would you suggest any municipality do to encourage a business to stay and not move out? PILOT'S are available to supposedly encourage job growth. I really don't know the solution to this but can see both the businesses and residents view.

... I really don't know the solution to this...

Part of the solution is adopting a proper Comprehensive Plan.  This situation, like the Wal-Mart or McLane's or whatever else, is a SYMPTOM of the problem.  Until the town adopts a proper Comp Plan, stops the persisitent tendency to spot zone, and basically figures out what they want where, these "problems" will persist.

Unfortunately, it's a little too late for that to have much impact on this decision but if the town doesn't get an updated Plan adopted soon, they will continually be faced with treating the symptoms instead of the underlying problem.

No New Taxes.

Quote from article:  Robert Godlewski, one of the newly elected members of the Democratic majority, said the incoming board hasn’t been provided with enough information to make an informed decision about the project. He said they plan to arrange meetings with both affected residents and representatives from the Golub Corp. before reaching a position sometime next year.
“We’re really not going to take a position on it yet because we can’t,” he said.

The Dems ran for office but weren't involved enough in town matters to be able to make an informed decision????
The Golub expansion is one of the largest development projects in Rotterdam and they know nothing?  Let's get
on board here and protect the quality of life for the residents in that neighborhood!  This is a great opportunity for the Dems to prove that they are in office to advocate for the residents, not the developers and big businessmen of
Rotterdam!

They were too busy handing out crappy recipes.

Of course, these new jobs will be held by the workers from the Voorhesville location.

Probably in the short term jobs won't be created, but for Golub to compete against multi national corporations like Walmart, they need to centralize their distribution center for efficiency reasons.  So in 10 years, if the Golub trend continues as it has in the 10 years prior, I'm pretty sure they will continue to build and buy new stores, creating new jobs.

Quoted Text
Under his direction, the Golub Corporation, parent of Price Chopper Supermarkets, evolved from a small chain of neighborhood grocery stores to a $2 billion company. The corporation today operates 104 stores in six states. With more than 20,000 employees, the Golub Corporation is the largest private employer in New York's Capital Region, and it ranks 82nd on the list of the nation's largest private companies published by Forbes magazine. It also enjoys a reputation as a feisty competitor to larger, national supermarket chains.

As far as I know, the town collects property tax from the buildings at the Duansburg Road complex.  Moving the office complex downtown doesn't reduce the number of taxable structures that exist at the distribution center.  From what I understand, the old offices are going to be converted into additional warehouse space.  So with the additional warehouse being built, and the offices being converted in the warehouse space, my guess would be amount of property taxes payed by the Golub Corp would increase, adding revenue to the town, county, and Schalmont School District.

Now the Democrats can stop it, no problem. Once they are "provided" with enough of the "secret" information that has been "withheld" from them by the Trilateralists.

The following Legal Notice is from today's Gazette.  Interesting that this "public meeting" is scheduled at 3pm in the afternoon when most residents are working.  This makes it rather difficult for these people to attend unless they take off time from their job.  Could this be a deliberate move on the town's part?  And BTW, this meeting isn't on the Town Calendar yet so if you check the Town's website for scheduled meetings on the Golub expansion, you're out of luck.

TOWN OF ROTTERDAM LEGAL NOTICE PLEASE TAKE NOTICE, that a public meeting will be held by the Rotterdam Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 in the V. Dalton Bambury Hearing Room, at the John F. Kirvin Government Center, 1100 Sunrise Boulevard, Rotterdam, New York at 3:00PM. to consider the following 1. Golub Corporation - Duanesburg and Dunnsville Roads. Request for a Comprehensive Plan Amendment on +/-21.5 acre of property from Commercial to Industrial. Applicant proposes to relocate a portion of Dunnsville Road and increase the warehousing capability of the site by approximately 410,000 square feet of gross floor area to allow Price Chopper to consolidate and expand warehousing operations. By Order of the Rotterdam Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee Lawrence Dilallo, Chairman 12-7 1267

It sure looks like it's a deliberate attempt to make sure that there is not very many objections to the plan.

These meetings are routinely scheduled during the day.  Chairs and co-chairs of the various Town Boards, PC, ZBA, RCAC, that make up the Comp Plan Advisory Committee are required to take time off from their day job, if they have one, to attend.
