I guess the school district hasn't heard that the country is in a recession and people are losing their jobs. They've never heard of cut waste, balance the budget, or make do with what you have. It's the same old tax and spend policies that they always operate on. I hope the voters stand up and tell them no.

School taxes are too high now and much of the money needed to run the schools goes to pay salaries and benefits not educate the kids.

At school board election time, they keep telling us how they need more of our money just to maintain what they have. They can't afford what already exists and they want to spend and build more?

More athletic fields? How much extra will it cost to maintain those? They need to be reminded that we are in a very deep recession and there are tons of people out of work. Don't look to the state to fill the bill....they already are cutting state aid to the schools.

Mohonasen nearing land deal with neighbors

BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter

Mohonasen officials are nearing a deal with two land owners near the Curry Road campus, meaning voters could see a proposition to buy roughly 42 acres during this year’s budget vote.
Superintendent Kathleen Spring said the district is very near a purchase agreement with the O’Hare and Lindenman families, which both own property off Serafini Drive. She declined to discuss the purchase price for the land in advance of them ratifying a fi nal contract with the board, but said the deal would need to be reached within the next couple of weeks.
“We’re at a place where we’re ready to seal the deal,” she said Monday.
If a contract is reached and the measure is approved by voters, the district would use part of its $2.3 million capital reserve fund to purchase the land. The reserve was established about a decade ago for the purpose of funding various building projects around the district.
The reserve can only be used for capital improvements, land purchases or to pay off outstanding debt from previous building projects. Spring said the reserve cannot be used to offset the tax levy or restore the estimated 17 positions the district may shed as a result of a shortfall in state funding.
“It can only be used for these specific purposes,” she said. ...........>>>>............>>>>.............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01301&AppName=1

... which will get voted down, then they'll put it up for a revote when seniors won't venture out (major voting block) .. and it'll pass, with even MORE pork included.

Property purchase on ballot
BY MICHAEL GOOT Gazette Reporter

Mohonasen residents will vote on May 18 whether to purchase about 36 acres of land adjacent to the district’s middle school/high school campus for a future expansion.
The school district recently reached agreement with the O’Hare and Lindenman families to purchase the land at a cost of $1.425 million after years of negotiation. The landowners are donating $270,000 worth of the property as a gift.
The land purchase would be eligible for 95 percent reimbursement from the state because of the merger that occurred between Mohonasen and the former Draper Central School District more than two decades ago.
District spokeswoman Adrienne Leon said the school’s attorney negotiated with both landowners jointly through their attorney. “It will be up to the different landowners as to how they divide the $1.425 million,” she said.
School officials had considered taking the 17.5-acre O’Hare property through eminent domain in 2009 after talks broke down over the price. However, Mohonasen backed off of that idea because of concern over negative reaction from voters.
This land is crucial to a capital project the Board of Education seeks to put before voters in October.
“We’re waiting to see if the 95 percent state aid is renewed by the Legislature. That’s still the plan at this time,” Leon said. .............>>>>...................>>>>................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00904&AppName=1
