Schenectady detouring State Street traffic Saturday
Staff reports
Last updated: 5:18 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2009

SCHENECTADY — Officials will close State Street between Clinton Street and Broadway from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

The closure will allow a Green Island company to set up a crane at the intersection of State and Jay streets. Traffic will detour around a large portion of the city's downtown district, according to a news release.

Eastbound traffic will be routed onto Broadway and then Hamilton Street while westbound traffic will be routed south onto Clinton Street. The city encourages drivers to plan extra time or seek alternate routes during the construction time...............http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=758469

And what happens then?  The taxpayers of Schenectady County have to pony up next year a little more again because of a day without a majority of the traffic coming through...the reason?  Metroplex is spending hard-earned taxpayer money again.  Too bad they couldn't do this the other side of Erie Boulevard...where there is no traffic...or maybe during a weekday when everybody's at their jobs, not looking to go chase their paychecks away at a Metroplex success...government watering hole...no, it is a Metroplex "success."

Wait a damn minute.  The Daily Gazette - the "hometown paper" doesn't have this info in their printed rag, or on their website. Don't ya think they'd print something like this to make their residents AWARE?  Is it any wonder subscribers are dropping like snow in a blizzard?

Thank God we've got the TimesUnion - they know what's important.

Right MT. This issue is totally ignored by the former Schenectady Gazetto. They can't even report State Street news.

This does not fit with their cockeyed view that everything is hunky dory Downtown. If it's bad {Parisi's Steakhouse closes 11/1/08, Friendly's closes} just ignore it. If it's too big to ignore like the Van Dyke Disaster {where the Bank got paid and the County taxpayer got the shaft} then sugar coat it, say the taxpayers were lucky? Its hilarious. You can't make this stuff up-and watch out for falling metal-Metrograft at "work".
