further sign of the liberal renaissance that the city is undergoing...

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

More renaissance news! Brandywine Ave "Business District" resembles Eastern Ave, Crane St, lower State St and Van Vranken Ave. neutron bombs sites. Buildings up-businesses disappeared. Waiting for the People's Gazetto to do a puff piece on Brandywine "renaissance".

What do you expect from a Krat who was raised in Bethesda. MD? He was imported from Clifton Park by the machine to run for public office. Never held a private sector job. City Council, County Legislator both with no results, than a run for Mayor. Since than he has been busy raising his own salary, raising every tax and fee and driving a taxpayer Jeep.

Stratton knows enough about the area to prevent a Walgreen's from opening on a vacant lot at Brandywine and State. Wants it more pedestrian friendly. Seriously. The horrible Gazetto touted him as "Mayor for life". Then they wonder why their circulation has fallen off a cliff. Only in Schenectady County. Lord help us.

Welcome to the jungle
We've got fun 'n' games
We got everything you want
Honey, we know the names
We are the people that can find
Whatever you may need
If you got the money, honey
We got your disease

[CHORUS:]

In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring you to your
knees, knees
I wanna watch you bleed

Welcome to the jungle
We take it day by day
If you want it you're gonna bleed
But it's the price you pay
And you're a very sexy girl
That's very hard to please
You can taste the bright lights
But you won't get them for free
In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Feel my, my, my serpentine
I, I wanna hear you scream

Welcome to the jungle
It gets worse here everyday
Ya learn ta live like an animal
In the jungle where we play
If you got a hunger for what you see
You'll take it eventually
You can have anything you want
But you better not take it from me

[CHORUS]

And when you're high you never
Ever want to come down, YEAH!

You know where you are
You're in the jungle baby
You're gonna die
In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring you to your
knees, knees
In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Feel my, my, my serpentine
In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring you to your
knees, knees
In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring you to your
It' gonna bring you down-HA!

Official song of the Schenectady County "renaissance". Better than anything on Chinese Democracy.

Brandywine Avenue a decade ago had 2 fine Diners, a good auto parts store-all vacated. This is exactly what has happened to every City business district since Stratton's election. Everything has been dumped into a 2 block area of Downtown, with marginal results.

it is not as easy for him since he lives in the city and has been forced to watch the whole kit and caboodle decline precipitously while you live a wonderful and safe community there, Rene. ya' just have to try walking in his shoes for a bit and you understand why!

Rene you would go nuts if you lived there and dealt with the dirt bag things people do, and then have the politicians spit in you face when you complain, paying more attention to the neanderthals who suck up all the welfare and taxpayer money from the hard working taxpayers. They know where the votes that they can control are. It is terrible, and you can't even get out and sell your home, they are so worthless. Very sad. The city is crumbling to pieces before the long term residents eyes, and the people are helpless and frustrated. The Mayor and city council other than a few there who care, are completely rude and dismissive of the real concerns, knowing they will get all the votes form Hamilton Hill and the welfare seekers and blood suckers.

I think that is somewhat unfair to compare Duanesburg and the city of Schenectady. Yes, of course Duanesburg is a much better place to live. So is every other surrounding town in the county. But the city and the county legislatures have a major unfavorable effect on these surrounding towns. And these surrounding towns seem to be having less and less input for many issues.

Now, I'm sure, and I'm not speaking for Rene, if we can all get out of the political mindset for just one day, there is plenty of goodness around to be grateful for. Do we and our loved ones have jobs and good health? Great friends? Food in our frig?etc..... And as much as we agree or disagree, dispute and argue with the happenings in this country, we are still blessed to live in the greatest country on earth!! IMHO

This is a sad state to be in.  I am very sorry.  You are right, I would go crazy if I had to live like that, but 20 miles doesn't blind me from seeing what is going on in what was once a great city.  My grandparents lived on Nott Terrace then on Oregon Avenue in later years. My grandfather was a cab driver.  My aunt and uncle still live on Francis Ave.  The country girl (me) would spend weekends and summers with them just for kicks.  My girlfriend and I would walk any given street in Schenectady and not be fearful.  I remember riding the motorcycle through downtown this summer and felt like a "sitting duck".  I was ashamed to feel like that but I did.  I don't know what the answer is but it lies with the people of Schenectady not the politicians.  They are basically useless.  There just doesn't seem to be a sense of pride, self worth, or respect for others.  I wish I knew how to get that back for people.

Getting out of the political mindset is the key.  Who cares what the idiots do?  It isn't like us griping on this forum has any effect on improving the intelligence level of members of the county leg.  Even going to the meetings is an exercise in futility. Ya know, some of my friends don't even know what metroplex is.  They would be hard pressed to name the town board not to mention the members of the county leg.  The funny thing is they get along just fine and probably a whole lot less frustrated then us.
To me, Duanesburg is a "better" place to live but that's because I have never known anything different. I'm pretty sure Schenectady has many benefits too.  Walking down a street with a sidewalk makes me feel cosmopolitan Believe me, when I've visited NYC I have to wonder how exciting it would be to live like that too.
As for the detrimental effect the county leg has on the towns, I have to say...we are all in this together.  If the county does not have a prosperous city we will all fail.  At the same time, when the county tries to create a prosperous city at the expense of the towns we will all lose too.  In the past couple of years they have been doing this.  The sex offender law is the primary example....it did not matter if there could have been an effect on the outlieing towns....it simply did not matter to them.  That is what pissed me off more than anything.....they did not care.  Central dispatch is a new issue.  Its a wonderful concept that we support, we simply can not afford to add a first year cost of $20k to our budget.  It is a 10% increase in our budget levy.  The point is.....they do not care, it does not matter.  Hey, I want a Lexus, but I can't afford it.
