All uninsured children now eligible for state health plan

ALBANY — Starting this month, all New York families with uninsured children are eligible for moderate or no-cost health care coverage.

For information on where and how to apply for Child Health Plus, visit http://www.nyhealth.gov/nysdoh/chplus/ or call 800-698-4543.

Gov. David Paterson says eligibility for Child Health Plus was expanded to include families whose income is four times the federal poverty level, up from the 2 1/2 times previously required.

For example, a child in a family of three whose income exceeded $44,000 would not have been able to participate in the program before the expansion. Now, that child will be eligible for coverage at no cost, or at a reduced monthly premium, if the family’s income is no greater than $70,000.

Any family with income above the new cutoff can buy into the program at the full monthly premium, which is $156 on average.

Interesting.  I got a sign to put on my lawn from one person who sent me a card saying he was proud of expanding this.  Until I receive a response from the e-mail that I sent to him, I will not be putting up his sign...if ever.

I am supposed to start physical therapy on Thursday.....3 times a week for 6 weeks as far as I know right now.  It doesn't make much difference because if I have to pay a $40 co pay I can't really afford to go anyway unless I put it on a charge card.  Thats on top of $110 a week premiums payments.  I love kids and I'm glad to see them get proper health care but.........

We''ll take care of the kids, but old folks and handicapped/disabled need to fend for themselves (Soc. Sec. Part D).

Anyone see the plan here? Older or disabled people are just too expensive to take care of these days.

I say let us keep our own money so that we can turn around and spend it at local businesses.  Once we do that, the local business expands, hiring new employees, giving those employees benefits THAT THEY WORK FOR.  Once they get them, they go out and spend that money on other products and so on and so forth.

STATIST?

Here's a more detailed explanation of what
it means to score in the "statist" category.

Statists tend to favor a great deal of government control over individual behavior and over the economy. That's why WordIQ.com defines "statism" as "any social or political system in which state intervention plays a major role." The Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary defines it as a "concentration of economic controls and planning in the hands of a highly centralized government."

This belief in government power doesn't necessarily make statists undemocratic. Many statists believe government represents the collective will of the people, and they usually argue that a powerful government is necessary to build a better society. As WordIQ.com noted, "supporters of statism argue that [government power] ultimately benefits the individual himself, since the public good involves the personal good of the maximum number of individuals."

Statists support far less individual liberty than any other political ideology. Statists tend to distrust the free market, advocate centralized planning of the economy (including high taxes, strict regulation of business, and even government ownership or control of major industries), oppose "alternative" lifestyles that go against the beliefs of a majority of citizens, and downplay the importance of civil liberties. In short, statists consistently doubt that economic liberty and individual freedom are necessary, practical, or workable in today's world.

Some statists call their political beliefs populism, socialism, or communitarianism. At the extreme, undemocratic end of the statist spectrum, statism also encompasses communism, fascism, and other forms of totalitarianism.

Statism

What is statism?

Under statism, government is no longer a policeman, but a gang of thugs with the legal power to initiate force in any manner they please against a legally disarmed citizen.

What are some examples of statism?

Variants of statism include: socialism, nazism (national socialism), theocracy, [pure] democracy, communism, fascism, tribalism, etc.

What is the key principle underlying statism?

In form many of these systems differ, in theory and blood stained practice they all unite upon the same fundamental collectivist ethical principle: man is not an end to himself, but is only a tool to serve the ends of others. Whether those "others" are a dictator's gang, the nation, society, the race, (the) god(s), the majority, the community, the tribe, etc., is irrelevant -- the point is that man in principle must be sacrificed to others.

What is the opposite of statism?

The opposite of statism is capitalism.

How does capitalism differ from statism?

Only capitalism declares that each and every man, may live his own life for his own happiness, as an end to himself, not by permission of others, but by right, and that government's sole responsibility is to protect those rights, and never violate them, because they are inalienable.

ooohhh, dont you worry there MT....AARP is the next biggest growing lobbyist group going.....the boomers have it movin'.....
I'm not sure who/what is movin' for the disabled, in public that is.....our society is moving at a very steady pace back to institutionalizing
.....yeah, there's talk about 'keeping them home because it's cheaper'....cheaper is one thing,,,,reliable is another.....then big brother
will have another expanded responsibility.......

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
