Tacky pink flamingos don’t fit in Stockade
Your Feb. 15 article “Pink flamingos make annual appearance — Stockade residents have grown fond of Valentine’s Day tradition,” reminds me somewhat of the history of the Stockade. You know, they came in the middle of the night on Feb. 8, 1690, to burn and destroy the Stockade. Your story [about the fl amingos] isn’t that gruesome, but there seems to be a group of people who are out to change the Stockade ambience. The reason I am thinking this way is because I remember a story in your paper about a group of people who, one Christmastime decided to decorate Lawrence the Indian monument, making him look foolish. I only wish the people who are doing this tacky decorating could come up with better ideas. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for celebrating Valentine’s Day. But not with pink flamingos. Maybe they could use the standards, like hearts and flowers. Or why not do a Valentine dance festival for singles? Now isn’t that adorable? MICHAEL IACOBUCCI Schenectady

Well Mr. Iacobucci, then why don't you just start doing that? Decorate with hearts and flowers and hold a dance fest for singles.
As for the flamingos....I think that is kind of adorable! |

Funny, the residents of the stockade seemed to love it for a day.
What they didn't necessarily like was the tacky balloons that surrounded him ... or the Christmas tree that was tipped and nearly took out a wire. When was the last time Iacobucci went down and helped clean up Lawrence? Has he planted any flowers - or removed any weeds?
Get real Iacobucci - better yet, get a life. |

The Stockade is very eccentric and eclectic....there is a little old world charm mixed in too....with tours....I'm sure the pink flamingos wont be a center piece when the tours are conducted..... |
