Ex-music teacher to serve nine years ALBANY — A former Wynantskill elementary school music teacher was sentenced to nine years in prison and forced to surrender his teaching license after he pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography. Marc S. Sardella, 47, of Norman Avenue, Guilderland, must also pay a $250,000 fine, surrender his computer equipment and register as a sex offender. Sardella entered his plea in full satisfaction of all charges Sept. 27 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District. He admitted in court he knowingly and willingly possessed printed images, a briefcase and a computer containing more than 600 images of minors engaged in explicit sex. He waived indictment to accept the plea. Sardella admitted to law enforcement authorities Jan. 28, 2006, he used the Internet to view and download child pornography, according to court documents. Sardella was charged with one count of possessing a sexual performance of a child. Authorities later added 10 more felony counts of possessing a sexual performance of a child after a search warrant was executed at his home.

Sardella, 49, of Guilderland, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Lawrence E. Kahn and ordered to have no unsupervised contact with minors, participate in a sex offender program and register with the New York State Sex Offender Registry Program. Sardella pleaded guilty Sept. 27 to possessing more than 600 images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Sardella admitted he used his computer and the Internet to view and download child pornography. Sardella was a teacher at the Gardner-Dickinson Elementary School in North Greenbush.
