Bank set to open
high school branch
   ROTTERDAM — Students at Mohonasen High School will be able to open a checking account without even leaving school.
   First New York Federal Credit Union is opening a student-run branch of the bank on Fridays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A group of about six or seven students will be working at the branch.
   This is the second student branch the company has opened; the fi rst opened at Schenectady High School in March 2004.
   “It’s worked out very well. It’s provided us an opportunity to work with the students and give them some hands-on experience. It gives us a chance to go into the classroom and talk about finances,” said Walt Everhardt, director of marketing for the credit union.
   Students and faculty will be able to do most activities that they could do at a regular bank including opening an account, making deposits and withdrawals, Everhardt said. The bank will not have a lot of cash on hand and it will not be able to process things like money orders.
   Everhardt said two student tellers will work every week.
   They will be supervised by one of their classroom teachers and the bank will also have a liaison.

Now when the next generation's come through and they only have ATM/Bank cards and no cash they will learn the 'value' of $$ and what it does when you save it spend it etc.....There will be no $$ just 'credit values'.....

It's like folks who have never seen an apple but have eaten an apple pie......I can give you an apple pie and tell you about an apple but unless you actually pick, touch, bite a whole apple you could never truly understand what an apple is and how it can rot, grow, get peeled, baked, squashed etc......

They'll figure it out.
