I hunt with a guy who sells real estate in Schdy county and he told me that he has a ton of listings in this county and he can't sell any of them even by lowering the asking price. Nobody wants to buy a house in Schdy County at any price, nice job Schdy County Council you've really helped out the citizens that you represent [not].

I say we have a GIANT barbeque and burn our homes....we will need the heating by the way oil prices are going....as for food prices,,,we can cook Fluffy and Sparky....or find some of those illegal aliens and demand our lettuce/oranges and all those high paying jobs back....that is after we retake our liberty from the national 'Real ID'........boy, this hole is getting deeper and darker.......

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

I have heard this from other people as well. I just question that if the housing prices in Rotterdam goes too low, WHO will move here?

Housing values going down and taxes going up....sounds like.....THE CITY OF SCHENECTADY!!

Legislator had a field day twisting high county tax numbers

Re the Oct. 21 Viewpoint, “Inflating fi gures unfairly”: Schenectady County Legislator Philip Fields provided all of us with the fruits of his examination of the ranking of Schenectady County as the 10th highesttaxed county in all of the United States by The Tax Foundation.
Let’s take Mr. Fields’ numbers at face value, because a politician would never massage the numbers when attempting to discredit a source or justify high taxes. Mr. Fields gives us three solid numbers: “On average” the county property tax represents 21.5 percent of our total tax bill, “while the city or towns, school districts and special tax district levy” — whatever they are — are responsible for the remaining 78.5 percent.
Mr. Fields further gives us the number we need! That is, our county’s effective rate is $7.74 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. By using the numbers Mr. Fields provided for us, you can extrapolate that the average Schenectady County resident is taxed at around $36 per $1,000.
Last summer my wife and I bought a piece of property in Davidson County, N.C., for a future retirement home. We paid our once-a-year taxes in August; they were for county, town, school and fire department funding. The effective tax rate was $5.65 per thousand!
If Mr. Fields has his way, Schenectady County will move way up from 10th place on that list. You others, “come on down!”

The tax increase of 4.5% does not include the costs associated with hiring the additional two dozen or so Correction Officers at the county jail as mandated by the state.  I await the final impact of the county spending on the county property tax rate.

Wasn't this included in the budget? And if it is mandated by the state, perhaps the state will help lighten the load for the counties with state funding.
