THIS aspect of infrastructure can't be (but regularly is) ignored.  If the Town wants to build sewers anywhere they've got to be sensitive to the capacity of the treatment facility.  There are subdivisions being built with dry sewers for decades now that have never been connected to anything.  Pipe lays cost what they cost and are RELATIVELY inexpensive to building new treatment plant capacity.  That is multi-million dollar territory.

One thing that always concerns me when the Town approves new residential building is they look at current available capacity and say there's plenty...go ahead and build.  The problem is they keep looking at the same unused capacity as they approve project after project.  I reccmmend everyone read a copy of the "current" Town of Rotterdam Comprehensive Plan and looking at the section that talks about treatment facility capacity.  It was alarming when it was written.  How do you think it stacks up now?

Lets talk "Sync"

anyone know the avg sewer rate???

lets say $300 a year unit/residence

multiply that by the out of district multiplier of 1.5

that brings the rate to $450

and if Sync has 100 units the total cash to the town is $45,000/yr

last nights vote has nothing to do with the grand Sync gave it has all to do with the raising of CA$H

The vote last night, as usual, had nothing to do with the legalities, rules or zoning issues. Sadly, the decisions were made because galesi didn't have an 'on the spot' answer to what they had planned for that area. Others were based on the 'poor children'. Other decisions were made on how the one next to them voted. Others were made with the excuse of the 'past administration'.

Not ONE vote was based on the legal issues possibly facing this town in the future. The right think would have been to table it until they gathered more 'informative' information before making this huge permanent decision! But this is rotterdam....who could expect anything less?

bumble i disagree the Sync issue is all about $$$$$

the families provided the smoke screen for the board majority to work with

I am not supporting Sync but I believe they will get screwed in the end on the sewer rates

some people hope in two years Sync will be on their knees begging forgiveness or gone

and I can tell you from my experiences in Asia this will not be the case

And it wasn't about money with galesi? Come on tippy, don't kid yourself....that is the only way people do business in rotterdam.

As far as sync.....it was and is a scam that the town board fell for....hook, line and sinker!!! This town board will end up with mud on their face over this decision.

Would respectfully disagree!  GP voted against the rezone.  Aside from that, Jeff Baker, attorney for Galesi made numerous arguments as to the illegality of moving forward.  M'ski (spelling?)  spoke about SEQR and Neg Declaration.  Town Board had to sh!t or get off the pot on this one.  I have been to other municipal board meetings, and the board members will ask for a legal determination from their attorney.  We have not seen this with this administration.  So assume no one can inteligently provide legal commentary (JL, FDGs personal as't.).  The vote will be challenged in court, Article 78, and a Judge (somewhat more competent) will review the resolutions with consistency with the law.  I have to believe that there are many challenges brewing, most may be lost by the Town.  But in the end, nothing ventured nothing gained, if the Judge reverses the resolutions, the Town is merely back where they started from.

In this particular case, the Town stands a better chance.  This is based on the historical use of the property, the fact that prior Gov't. housing was rezoned by the Town in the past for multiple R-3.  Also, the residential use preceded our outdated, obsolete Comp Plan which governs rezoning.  Also, historically the courts provide a wide berth to Town Board decisions.  Regarding SEQR (State Environmental Quality Review) the project is less egregious than Industrial zoning, no impact to the environment, and the property generates tax revenue while providing affordable housing (a segment in the 2001 Comp Plan).  So odds are 50/50 as to how this will ultimately end, Vegas gives slight advantage to the Town.  A Judge will say Galesi could have bid more but chose not to, and Galesi could have prevented occupancy by severing the sewer connection, but they didn't.  Also, a Judge will not be happy making a decision that will evict many people from their home and neighbors.  Time will tell . . . .

The fact remains that this town lacks the ability to plan.....and too cheap to invest properly....looking for something for nothing......hence,,,no sewers for the Mayor of Hamburg St.....and MFRH all over the town without so much as impact planning for the schools/roads/lack of sidewalks.......just keep carving and the result will be one sorry a** looking Icon for what not to do for future generations and other towns....
