the unconstitutionality of the decision by the Town of Lake George to deny absentee ballots to people qualified to vote in a special referendum;

It is shameful enough that this town board is having a special election on a holiday week, but denying the disabled people to an absentee vote is clearly unconstitutional!

Provisions for Voters with Disabilities
Most polling places are now accessible to the handicapped. If yours is not, you may ask to have your records transferred to a nearby accessible polling place where the ballot will be the same as in your election district. You may also vote by absentee ballot. If you have a long-term or permanent illness or disability, you can apply for a permanent absentee ballot and you will automatically receive one before each primary and general election. For additional information, please visit your state's on-line polling place resource.

RU kidding me?  He's too busy attacking George.  He probably helped cook up this hair brained plan.

The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable, and so, if he is romantic, he tries to change it. Concerned Citizens for Honest & Open Government
Concerned Citizens for Honest & Open Government placed an ad in this past week's New Hartford edition of the Pennysaver to make sure that Town of New Hartford residents had information regarding the $4.6+ million bond referendum that was to take place on January 16, 2007.

As you recall, in October 2006, several of our members collected signatures to "force" the bond spending to a vote. Our group believes that all town residents deserve a chance to have a say in any spending that requires bonding and although town officials were quoted as saying they would "educate" the public on their plan, no information was forthcoming. We also were the ones to bring to light the fact that no absentee ballots would be allowed; a detail that our town councilmen and town attorney claim they did not think about prior to receiving numerous calls from residents who read our website and blog. We also sent information to the Observer Dispatch and as a result they did an article regarding the "no absentee ballots" decision.

On Wednesday, January 10, 2007, just 6 days before the vote was to take place and one day before our ad was to run in the Pennysaver, the town board cancelled the vote. They will vote on new bond resolutions at the next town board meeting on Wednesday, January 17, 2007. That meeting will be at Butler Memorial Hall at 6:00 p.m. We urge you to attend--meetings usually only last 35-40 minutes at most.

According to a statement made by Town Supervisor Earle Reed, the new bond resolution vote will be a mandatory referendum, meaning that we will not have to collect signatures--the vote will take place and absentee ballots will be allowed this time.

In the meantime, we have posted our Pennysaver ad for anyone who has not already had a chance to view it in the New Hartford edition of the Pennysaver that was mailed to homes on Thursday, January 11, 2007. We removed the information regarding the January 16th vote so as to not confuse anyone.

At this time, we do not know if there will be any changes to the bond resolutions, but we will keep you informed as details become available. For more complete information regarding all eight( bond resolutions be sure to visit our website.

There is a vote that will take place in June.  My concern is about the disparity for disabled persons and people on vacation, etc. not being able to vote.  I hope Parisi addresses this.  As far as his position on REMS, I would hope his position is that it's up to the people to decide!

GP was definitely part of this brilliant plan. He voted 'yes' for the REMS vote to be on June 29. The vote was unanimous.

So a yes vote from GP for a June vote means what? ...other than the fact that GP wants the residents to voice their opinion in the election, and make their voice heard?  I don't get it...

I would hope as town leaders, they all take a position as to why this is going up for referendum.  I would also like to hear what their personal positions are on why they voted for creating the taxing district.  Real leaders stick their neck out and take a stance. These cowards put it up for referendum and hold a banana republic style election during the week that our founding fathers declared independence from Britain because they believed they were unfairly taxed without representation 234 year ago.

How many residents clamored to our elected officials to create a taxing district for REMS?  Was town hall flooded with letters and e-mails begging and pleading for this taxing district?   Why is nobody asking them to justify this referendum vote?  Make them name some names of the people that wanted this put up for a vote and how many. Rotterdam is truly an example of a servile dictatorship.

What a bunch of CLOWNS!

GP won't have to say a word. People are already calling town hall about the boards BRILLIANT idea to not have absentee ballots. AND there will more than enough people at the meeting to speak for themselves against it.

It wouldn't surprise me if law suits aren't filed against this entire town board for their inept dealing with this issue. And it will be interesting to see how the 'losers' fair after the vote. Without absentee ballots.....the losers will be out with their pitchforks!

It would also be interesting to see exactly how many calls Mohawk has taken in the last few months. And I'd also like to know what the time frame is from when the call originated and how long it took to call Mohawk to fill in.

Where can we get this info? Anyone?

It would also be interesting to hear what princetown and duansburg residents think about their town leaders giving their tax money to an emergency service that can't stay afloat. How do their town officials justify that, when there is a private entity that will give a much more superior service at NO COST to the taxpayers?

I've kept up with every board meeting...I don't recall the decision to not provide absentee ballots being a "board decision."  Unless I missed something, it appears to be a new thing since the last meeting.  As I previously stated, before I get my panties in a bunch, I will wait for the first available opportunity for the board to defend their position (and hopefully for some to disagree with it!)  I predict DiLeva and Parisi will be against it...

I had an extensive phone conversation with Nicki DiLeva last night regarding the latest developments with this tax district issue. As you all know,
she has been on medical absence but will return for the 6/9 Board meeting. I have shared information with her of which she was previously
unaware...for the same reason the general public has been left in the dark - one administration after another simply refuses to explore and
disclose all of the facts necessary for the voting public to make an informed decision.

She called this morning to tell me that she had given my comments a lot of thought and she agrees with us...she has given me her word that she
will move to postpone the 6/29 vote until November. I think Parisi will support this motion...and especially under the current circumstances,
the remaining Board Members owe us their unanimous support to carry that motion, IMO.
