Quoted from capo12

The issue is this:

Why give fields that have been maintained for decades and played on for decades by Rotterdam Little Leaguers and their families to anyone else without having a single conversation with them about that?  Am I missing something?  If Caprara or Pascarella or anyone else gave up the fields I worked side by side on with dozens of other volunteers over the years without informing me- I want to know.  If it is true- AS I SUSPECT that not a single word was said to the league- then you have put the children of Rotterdam little league in a very bad position for some reason.
.

Rotterdam ball field story transcends politics

Over the past week, you have read about the Woestina Fields, Little League, and Challengers Baseball League. Being an election year, some would like you to believe that this is all about politics. Believe me, this is far from the truth.
As commissioner of the league, I’ve known about the Woestina Fields not being used for some time. It was brought to the attention of both Democratic and Republican parties that it could become the home of the Challengers, if it wasn’t being used by the Little League. Being involved with Challengers for 20 years, I know our league is about enhancing the quality of life for the families of children and adults with development disabilities. There’s no room for politics.
[Town Supervisor] Steve Tommasone wrote me in June with information that the Little League was no longer using the fields. We and the park’s neighbors already knew that. This letter was read at our banquet to 280 people, including county Legislator Joseph Suhrada, so it was no secret. The possibility of the fields being used by Challengers was then in progress. Suhrada and Tommasone went to work because they knew, the Democratic Party knew, and I knew, that the privately owned Challenger fields could one day be taken away from us, to be developed as prime commercial property. A public park is best suited for a league like ours, because it can’t be taken away as long as we are truly using it.
On Oct. 9 we met with the director of the state Canal Corp., which owns the Woestina land. She agreed that there were no problems with improving that property. I stated, and all agreed, that these fields should be open to all the townspeople and should never have a lock placed on the gate. There were no lies or political conspiracies on anyone’s behalf.
I wish the negative words about officials from both parties would cease. I know both Republicans and Democrats are involved in helping the children and adults of our community who participate in all sports, organized or not. Our program is free to the players and it has been with the support of so many in the community that we can do this.
I firmly believe that both parties agree that the loss of this program would be to the great detriment of the kids and community.

People with disabilities are 'outsiders'? Nice! And all this time, and in my opinion, I thought libs were bleeding hearts.

LOL  only 12 hours a week.  okay Spencer- will you take the 7am to 9am slot Monday through Saturday because Little League needs M-Fri 6-8pm and a few hours on Saturday.......

You can quote me on this.  There is no plan in place to do anything for Rotterdam Little League there.  There is a much better chance that RLL will lose its fields (400+) Rotterdam kids than the Challengers lose their fields.

They write a letter to the editor and have Spencer (a Republican Committeeman) sign it.  NA it wasn't political to give the little league fields to someone else 3 weeks before election day without talking to anyone from the league.

Hey- by the way---- Still haven't got answer to last question.  Or should I say- I got the answer I expected.... There was no letter written to Surhadra saying the league didn't want the fields.  Caprara told me as much and said that Surhadra admitted there was no letter.

Na, it wasnt political.  Its always about the kiddies

Keep kicking those little disabled kids in the teeth. Nice. They don't live in 6,000 mansions and don't drive to their games in Escalades. Nice people. They don't even have a political party endorsement to hand out to the most deserving...

It was my understanding that back in October of 07, the county leg was willing to spend $260K on new fields, which fell through. Well if they still have that money put aside, perhaps they can buy some land from mr. larned for a field. Just a thought.

That was swamp land that they were buying. Too bad they believed everything they demoncats were trying to sell. If they didn't waste all that time expecting the wetlands to come through, there might be fields now. But the blind faith they had in the dems sustained them. Gillen speaks, and they fall to their knees in humble tribute. Apparently nobody checked with the ACOE.

Why does ANYONE care if they use those fields.....aren't they just sitting there doing nothing?
