What is going on with the Curry Road Shopping Plaza. Last we heard..there were bids or offers in on the property.

I thought we were waiting for asbestos removal or something before the entire place can be demolished.

I thought the clean up was already done. And if it hasn't been done, when and who will?

I heard a rumor today. Someone told me that Palma Lumber Company on Curry Road, by the train overpass, donated their land to the town for a recreational center that will coincide with the empty Curry Rd Shopping plaza.

I honestly don't know how credible this information is. It came from someone who grew up in Rotterdam but does not live in this immediate area any more. So we will have to wait and see if this is true or not.

7815 days from the opening of Rotterdam Square Mall and the Curry Road Shopping Center looks the same as the day it essentially closed.  Great job, everybody.

I remember taking my car to the garage that was across from the mall. And I remember Orlev's too. Well, we may be getting old, or at least I definitely am, but at least we can still "remember"! Although don't ask me what I had for breakfast since I just may not remember that!

Yeah, I remember many of the changes through town.  The original buildings that were at 5 corners, in place of the McDonalds, the Friendly's that we used to always go to after church (that and Kem Cleaners now replaced by Hess), the back to back malls, now prelaced by Hannaford and Wal-Mart.  Just a few of the changes through town in the past 20+ years.

Oh God Shadow, I remember that! I grew up around there so we had front row seats.

And Kevin, I remember the Friendly's (now Hess). My dad used to take us there on those hot summer nights for those banana splits.

Does anyone remember Dutcher's Ice Cream? (now that's going back a ways in time)

Joann wins - lightning struck and RFD2 responded as quickly as they could - but it only took a few minutes to consume a LOT of that property.

Duthcers Ice Cream - now THAT was an ice cream cone - we used to swear it was a half gallon on a cone - and the best stuff you could buy.  Everytime we ride out to Berne, we go past there (it's now some other ice cream place) and remember the good times ... Curry Freeze just doesn't come close

The ice cream at Dutchers was homemade and you're right the cones were huge. When I was young and my parents would stop there for ice cream I could only get a single dip as the double dips were way too big for me to eat.

We were coming down from East Berne the night that the Palma Lumber Co burned and it looked like a huge fire from the top of Altamont Hill. We watched the fire department that night and all the next day pouring water on the piles of smoldering lumber.
